Is Botox Safe?
For more than 30 years, Botox has been used safely and extensively to treat a variety of muscular disorders as well as wrinkles. The treatment causes temporary weakness of only those muscles injected. With a well-established safety record, Botox has been approved by the FDA for use in cosmetic treatments.
What Should I Expect?
Botox is a very popular treatment, as it is relatively inexpensive and requires no recovery time. Injections are performed with a tiny needle, and no anesthesia is required. Each treatment lasts only 10 minutes and our Seattle Botox patients can return to work immediately. Patients typically notice a reduction in wrinkles within a few days, and full effects are seen within 1-2 weeks.
How Long Will It Last?
Typically, results last up to four months. After repeated treatments, results may last longer. Some patients report effects lasting 6-8 months after several successive treatments.
What Happens If I Choose Not To Continue Treatments?
If you do not continue treatments, your frown lines and wrinkles will gradually begin to look like they did before treatment. You can improve these aesthetic flaws by receiving additional Botox injections or undergoing facial cosmetic surgery.
Botox For Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis)
Approximately 3% of the population suffers from severe sweating, a condition referred to as hyperhidrosis. In patients with hyperhidrosis, the nerves are over-stimulated and profuse sweating may be caused by warm weather, emotional stress, or for no reason at all. This often results in awkward social situations for those that are affected causing psychological distress.
Botox is the preferred treatment of hyperhidrosis due to the fact that topical and oral medications, as well as surgery are often ineffective in the majority of patients. Because the eccrine (sweat) glands are innervated by sympathetic nerves that use acetylcholine as the neurotransmitter, Botox can temporarily reduce or eliminate sweating in the treated areas.
Many of our Botox Seattle patients notice a significant difference after just one treatment. The effect can last for up to a year. Never again will you have to worry about embarrassing sweat marks on your favorite shirt!
